Community Living BC Cuts Cause Pain
John Gaffney wants to say something.
He clasps his sister’s hands and swallows hard: “Sleepover,” he mumbles. Then, “three days two nights.”
For the last week, that’s all her brother has been saying, says Mo Gaffney. He’s been saying he wants to go to her home, that he doesn’t want to stay in hospital anymore.
Mo tilts Gaffney’s child-like face towards her and gives him the answer she’s told him a hundred times: “I’m looking for a good home for you.”
By all rights, Gaffney should not be in hospital. He has Down Syndrome and dementia; he is not sick.
