Hope in Shadows

Portraits of our Community

The Hope in Shadows photography contest gives residents of Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside the chance to document their community through their own eyes. Coordinated by Pivot Legal Society, the project sees 200 disposable cameras distributed to people in the neighbourhood. A selection of this year’s best photographs will be featured in an exhibition at Dr. Sun-Yat Sen Chinese Garden (578 Carrall Street) from December 3–31. Thirteen images were chosen for the Hope in Shadows calender, which is sold on the streets of Vancouver by homeless and low-income vendors.
