Writing from Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside
Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside is often referred to as Canada’s poorest postal code. In V6A: Writing from Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside—a new anthology edited by Elee Kraliji Gardiner and John Mikhail Asfour—the V6A coding is reappropriated and shifted to reflect the optimism and artistry so prevalent in the DTES. The poetry, prose, and essays of 32 emerging and established writers with ties to the area “recast the DTES as a site of creative energy and human dignity.”
There is a launch party for the anthology on Thursday, April 12 at the Waldorf Hotel (1489 East Hastings Street), from 7pm–9pm. The free event will feature readings by Cathleen With, Henry Doyle, Phoenix Winter, and My Name is Scot.
