In the past weeks the world has witnessed tragedies on the grandest scale in Black communities – but these are not isolated incidents. This is a symptom of a much larger foundational problem that exists. Around the globe, tragedies like this happen every day – even in our beloved Canada, where First Nations do not benefit from the same rights and freedoms as the majority. This is a systemic global issue and this colonial white privilege needs to be reflected upon and challenged publicly.
We join the voices of those who have been fighting against systemic racism perpetrated against the Black community, Indigenous peoples and racism of any kind globally. Each and every one of us needs to speak up, educate ourselves and our friends, and shout out to the world that all racism in any form is unacceptable.
Together, we must commit to social justice and anti-racism work within our daily lives. In our studio, we will work harder – such that our unwavering commitment has an impact on society and the creation of inclusive and just communities, where all are safe and belong. For our children to inherit a world where difference is embraced and celebrated, the first step is for this brutality to no longer be tolerated.
