Parametric Design & Environmental Analysis
Parametric design tools were used to interactively develop the design of the 5th & Macleod project in Calgary. In response to a set of environmental, architectural and urban design objectives, parameters were defined and used to rationalize and optimize the design. Environmental analysis tools were used to study wind loads, shadows and solar gain on the site, which informed how the towers were sculpted. Further considerations included views and privacy of adjacent towers on the site, and distribution of area across the buildings. By using parametric tools, it was possible to interactively develop multiple iterations of a design, and choose an optimal design from the options.
